Crystal Loyd, 41, of Sebring, FL, was tragically killed in a head-on collision on May 8, 2025, on US Highway 27 near Frostproof, FL. The crash, which occurred around 10:00 p.m., was caused by a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The collision led to a vehicle fire and claimed the life of Crystal, who was the sole occupant of the 2021 Toyota Corolla.
The vehicle’s immediate ignition, along with the violent impact of the crash, left little time for any reaction from the other motorists. His passenger, a 31-year-old woman from Kissimmee, was critically injured and airlifted to a trauma center where she remains in stable condition.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that at the time of the crash, a 911 call had reported the wrong-way driver traveling at high speed. Authorities believe that the Toyota driven by Crystal was the vehicle involved in this tragic incident.
As condolences continue to pour in for the families affected, the Polk County community mourns the loss of two lives, with many reflecting on the dangers of wrong-way driving. Local resident Emily Peters shared her thoughts on social media, saying, "My heart goes out to the families of those lost. May they find peace and comfort in these difficult times."
