Michael John Ryan, a 67-year-old resident of Winona, Minnesota, tragically passed away on May 5, 2025, after a devastating collision involving his e-bike and an automobile.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of 6th Street and Liberty Street in Winona. Ryan was riding his e-bike eastbound on 6th Street when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Gregory Stephen Ferriss, 52, of Winona. Ferriss was reportedly turning south onto Liberty Street when the accident happened.
Winona police officers, along with the Winona Fire Department and Winona Area Ambulance Service, responded immediately to the scene. Ryan was found unconscious and face down on the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Ryan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
There are no indications of alcohol or drug involvement in the crash, and Ferriss stated that the sun was in his eyes while making the turn. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the reconstruction of the crash.
