Christopher D. Messerlie Remembered After Fatal Motorcycle Crash On Interstate 81 In Cortland County
Christopher D. Messerlie, 26, of Watertown, died after a motorcycle crash on Interstate 81 in Cortland County over the weekend.
The crash occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, on I-81 southbound, about a half-mile south of Exit 52, according to New York State Police.
Investigators said the motorcycle left the roadway for reasons still under review and struck a guide rail before coming to a stop.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, and Messerlie was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries.
The crash led to a full closure of Interstate 81 for several hours and caused a traffic backup of about two miles.
