Dan Canniff Remembered After Fatal May 16, 2026 San Diego Motorcycle Crash In El Cerrito
Dan Canniff, a 28-year-old San Diego motorcyclist known online as 2DownDan, died after a Friday afternoon crash on El Cajon Boulevard in the El Cerrito neighborhood.
The crash happened just before 1 p.m. when Canniff rode eastbound on a Kawasaki Ninja 500 and a 22-year-old driver in a 2019 Toyota sedan turned left toward 56th Street.
Emergency crews took Canniff to a nearby hospital, where medical staff tried to save Canniff, but the injuries proved too severe.
The Toyota driver also went to a hospital with minor injuries, and authorities said impairment did not factor into the incident.
Canniff built a large online following through motorcycle videos and earned respect from many riders who valued the skill, enthusiasm, and openness shared through those posts.
The San Diego Traffic Division continues to investigate and asked witnesses near El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street around lunchtime Friday to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
Family members will announce obituary, memorial, and funeral service details at a later time.
