Graycen Vargo, Beloved Student-Athlete at Texas A&M–Texarkana, Passes Away After Sudden Medical Emergency at Track Event in New Orleans, LA
Graycen Vargo, a junior from Dallas and a dedicated member of Texas A&M University–Texarkana’s Eagles Cross Country and Track and Field teams, tragically passed away on April 25, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency during the RRAC Championships in New Orleans.
Vargo collapsed unexpectedly while competing, and medical personnel responded immediately before transporting them to a nearby hospital, where they later passed away.
Known for a strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and a positive attitude, Graycen earned respect and admiration from teammates, coaches, and peers alike. Beyond athletics, they were recently honored with the Eagle Excellence Award, recognizing their leadership, character, and contributions to the university community.
Social media reflected the deep sorrow felt across campus. One comment read, "Graycen always pushed everyone to be their best and made every practice fun. This is such a loss." Another noted, "Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time."
