Phillip Edward Smith, 41, Remembered for Service, Family Devotion, and a Life Built Around Helping Others in New Jersey
Phillip Edward Smith, age 41, passed away suddenly on May 8, 2026, after a life marked by family, service, friendship, and care for others.
Born in Philadelphia, Phillip later made New Jersey home and served in the United States Army during three overseas tours, one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.
Phillip also served in the National Guard and spent more than 10 years with the New Jersey State Police.
Family shared that Phillip loved music, played guitar, enjoyed the outdoors, and took deep pride in being a parent to Phillip Smith II.
Phillip is survived by Phillip Smith II, sister Florence “Flossie” Noel, and younger brother James Smith, and was preceded in death by their mother, grandparents, and great uncle.
A memorial fundraiser organized by Flossie Noel on May 12, 2026, had raised $5,384 of an $8,000 goal through 47 donations for funeral and memorial costs.
