Andrew Lewis, Known As Sketchy Andy, Dies At 39 During Tandem BASE Jump Near Moab On June 14, 2026
Andrew Lewis, the Moab extreme sports pioneer known to many as Sketchy Andy, passed away Sunday morning, June 14, 2026, during a tandem BASE jump in the Mineral Bottom area.
Grand County emergency teams, regional search and rescue crews, local EMS, and two medical helicopters responded to the remote canyon site after dispatchers received early reports of the crisis.
Rescue teams pronounced Lewis and the second person, estimated to be around 50 years old, at the scene on the desert floor.
Lewis, 39, operated BASE Jump Moab and introduced visitors to desert canyon jumping through a local business closely tied to the outdoor community.
Authorities have not released specific details about what went wrong during the descent, and they continue to withhold the second person’s identity until family notification.
Family members will announce obituary, memorial, and funeral service details at a later time.
