Barbara Ann Whitehorse Of Baxter Springs Remembered After Fatal Cherokee County Highway 69 Crash Reported June 12 2026

Barbara Ann Whitehorse, 73, of Baxter Springs, Kansas, passed away after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 69 near Northeast Belleview Road in Cherokee County.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon northeast of Columbus, when an oncoming northbound vehicle crossed the highway center line and hit Whitehorse’s vehicle.

Emergency crews responded quickly, removed both drivers from the damaged vehicles, and took Whitehorse to a nearby hospital.

Medical staff worked to save Whitehorse, but officials later confirmed Whitehorse passed away in the emergency room.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office continues to review the crash and the circumstances that led to it.

Neighbors in Baxter Springs mourn the sudden loss of a community member whose passing has deeply affected those who knew Whitehorse.

Memorial service details will be announced later, and family members will share obituary and funeral service information when arrangements are ready.
