Rockdale County Firefighter Juan Antonio Smith Dies After Fire Truck Overturns During Emergency Response In Conyers
Juan Antonio Smith, a Rockdale County Fire Rescue firefighter, died in the line of duty on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a fire truck overturned in Conyers, Georgia.
Georgia State Patrol said troopers responded at approximately 5:00 p.m. to the area of Eastview Road and Sigman Road after the apparatus overturned while the crew answered a reported structure fire call.
Investigators said the truck attempted a left turn before it rolled onto its passenger side, and Smith was ejected from the rear portion of the vehicle.
Officials pronounced Smith dead at the scene, while authorities had not released details about other crew members aboard the truck.
Governor Brian Kemp and Rockdale County officials shared condolences with Smith’s family, colleagues, friends, and the wider public safety community.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team East continues to review the circumstances of the June 12 incident.
