Chesnee Community Remembers Bruce Dean Mathis After Fatal Spartanburg Front Yard Incident On Tuesday Night

Bruce Dean Mathis, a 43-year-old Chesnee resident, died after an incident in the front yard of 412 Lucerne Drive in Spartanburg on Tuesday night.

Officers responded at about 9:20 p.m., and emergency responders took Mathis to Spartanburg Medical Center in critical condition.

Doctors pronounced Mathis dead at 10:04 p.m., according to authorities.

Investigators said an argument involved Mathis and 21-year-old Joseph Brenden Poole of Greenville, and authorities stated that both people knew each other before the incident.

Authorities said Poole left the scene and later entered custody without resistance as officials continued their inquiry.

Officials confirmed that a forensic examination took place on May 27, and results remain pending.

Family members, friends, and neighbors in Chesnee continue to remember Mathis with respect and sadness after the sudden loss.
