Canadian Tourist Li Desong Remembered After Fatal Incident at Teotihuacán Archaeological Zone Near Mexico City
Li Desong, a Canadian tourist, passed away Monday after a tragic public safety emergency at the Teotihuacán Archaeological Zone near Mexico City.
Authorities confirmed Li Desong as one of two people who lost their lives after the incident began at about 11:20 a.m. near the Pyramid of the Moon.
Emergency crews also assisted at least 13 injured visitors, including people from the United States, Colombia, Russia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Canada, and other countries.
Officials said the injured visitors ranged in age from 6 to 61, and authorities reported stable conditions as of Tuesday morning.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as visitors tried to protect themselves near the historic pyramid.
One witness said “everyone was a target,” capturing the fear many tourists felt during the sudden emergency.
Responders transported injured visitors to nearby medical facilities while investigators began reviewing evidence and reconstructing the timeline.
Mexican officials said the investigation remains ongoing as they work to understand what led to the tragedy.
