Margaret Rimmler, 65, Tragically Dies in Fatal Helicopter Crash at Kalalau Beach, Kaua'i

Margaret Rimmler, 65, from Massachusetts, tragically passed away on March 26th, 2026, in a fatal helicopter crash off Kalalau Beach, located along Kaua’i’s Nā Pali Coast.

The crash involved an Airborne Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD 500 helicopter, which went down roughly 100 yards offshore near the remote beach, a popular spot for hikers along the Kalalau Trail.

Margaret, along with 59-year-old Patrick Haskell, also from Massachusetts, lost their lives in the tragic accident. A third fatality, a 40-year-old woman, has not been named at this time, pending family notification.

Two other passengers survived the crash and sustained injuries, though their conditions remain undisclosed. The pilot's status is also yet to be confirmed by officials.

Emergency responders from Hanalei Fire Station and Rescue 3 arrived promptly on the scene, with witnesses and beachgoers performing CPR on the victims before first responders could take over.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, with preliminary reports suggesting that the pilot had tried to bring the helicopter closer to shore before the crash occurred.

In a heartfelt post, friend Sarah Nielsen shared on social media, “We lost an incredible soul today. Margaret’s kindness and adventurous spirit will always be remembered.”

Memorial service details will be shared by the family at a later date.
