Najee Hardaway, a 26-year-old fourth grade teacher at Lomond Elementary School, died after a car crash in Cleveland on May 26, 2026.
Hardaway was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirmed the case after the crash.
The Shaker Heights City School District shared the news with families and described Hardaway as an outstanding educator who cared deeply for students and the school community.
At Lomond Elementary, Hardaway brought energy, patience, and steady commitment to the classroom while working with young students every day.
Before teaching, Hardaway played basketball at the College of Wooster and earned respect for defense, discipline, and leadership.
Hardaway also graduated from Shaker Heights High School, where they played under longtime coach Danny Young and became known for dedication to the game.
Counselors will be available at Lomond Elementary to support students and staff as they grieve.
Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
