Douglas Shepp McCain, Virginia Beach Pilot And Family Member, Remembered After Sudden Passing At 66 On May 20, 2026
Douglas Shepp McCain, known as Doug, passed away suddenly on May 20, 2026, at age 66, leaving family and friends with deep sorrow.
Born on October 4, 1959, in Pensacola, Florida, Doug grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and joined the McCain family in 1966 after John McCain adopted Doug following marriage to Carol McCain.
Doug graduated from Jacksonville Episcopal High School in 1977, studied Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia, joined SAE fraternity, participated in Navy ROTC, and met lifelong spouse Ashley there.
After graduating in 1982, Doug served six years as a Navy pilot flying A-6 Intruders, then built a respected American Airlines career and became a captain.
Doug shared 40 years of marriage with Ashley Jardine McCain and cherished children Caroline and Shepp, grandchild Teddy, Carol Shepp McCain, siblings, extended family, and many friends.
