Norman Rafter Remembered After 2018 Can-Am Outlander ATV Crash On Cassidy Road In Russell, New York

Norman Rafter, 72, died Tuesday night after a 2018 Can-Am Outlander ATV left Cassidy Road in the Town of Russell, St. Lawrence County, New York, struck a tree, and overturned.

Emergency crews responded after reports of a four-wheeler crash and found Rafter unconscious and pinned beneath the overturned vehicle.

Deputies, firefighters, and rescue personnel removed Rafter from beneath the ATV and attempted lifesaving measures.

Despite those efforts, officials pronounced Rafter dead at the scene.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate what caused the ATV to leave the roadway.

The Russell community, along with family members and friends, mourns the sudden loss of a longtime resident after the June 3, 2026 report.
